Principal’s Letter

Allika Thompson-Young

Dear MAST High Families & Community,

I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve as the principal of Math, Science Research, and Technology High School. From the first Town Hall Meetings, I had the opportunity to discover how exceptional, talented, compassionate, hopeful and loving each student is here at MAST. I am deeply committed to building upon and showcasing the beauty and brilliance at MAST High, as some of students begin and others continue their educational journey here.

Our staff at MAST is committed to setting high academic expectations for all of our students and providing supportive systems to assure that they have the tools to meet them. We work each day to establish a positive school climate and culture, set high standards for teacher and student performance, provide unique, engaging, and challenging opportunities for students to learn and teach in order to ensure that MAST graduates are college and career ready. Moreover, we work together to create and enhance extracurricular opportunities to help students develop a growth mindset and hone the skills to be well-rounded scholars.

Each year the MAST staff invests a great deal of time with our young adult scholars, to discover their personalities, learning styles and interests. We celebrate their successes, small and large alike. We encourage students every day, and let them know that they are valued and respected. We emphasize to our students that each of them has a role to play in our school community’s success. We challenge our students to inspire, inspect, pursue questions and answers, make thinking visible, defend their assertions; and seek first to understand then to be understood.

As the old African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” MAST Families and Community, we are excited to work collaboratively with you to ensure our students succeed! We constantly share our students’ accomplishments here at MAST through various forums including this website. We look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with a rigorous and engaging high school experience. As the parent of a two children, I recognize the importance of a strong home- school connection. Families are every child’s first teachers, and I believe that by working together, we can make sure your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met.

Please know I will work tirelessly to ensure ALL students have the best possible experiences while at MAST High. I am tremendously grateful to have the opportunity to bring all that I have experienced and learned with me to our wonderful community. I look forward each year to becoming more ingrained in our community. Thank you for the opportunity to serve your families in this role! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.

Warm Regards,

Allika Thompson-Young, Principal
