The Battle in Me

By: Jyhason Charles

Whirling thoughts swoop my sanity, Loss of my favorite vanity.
My drive for freedom meaningless,
Created my own shackles.

I know I’m better than I once was,
No longer dunce.
Honestly lost but stable,
Hungry yet full,
Angered but satisfied.

This back and forth battle in me
Partly leaves me empty.
Starting to accept the void that will
never fill.
Calling it one of life’s unpaid bills.

Life isn’t some fairy tail with happy
endings.
But using the sorrow for fuel,
That’s when we can change fate, truly
bending.
Happiness can win my battle, ending the
duel.
