Spring 20'-21' Environmental Science-Period 3 Assignments

For this project, you will be utilizing your platform of choice to present a unique and relevant solution to a real-world problem. 


1. First, you will complete the attached Nearpod to identify a relatable Goal AND the root cause of problems you see in your community.
2. Brainstorm ideas on what you could design to solve the causes of the problems you noticed
3. Choose how you will design your solution and explain your solution. 


The options for presenting your design are:
- Google Slide Presentation 
- Poster/Flier
- Skit
- Letter to the Mayor of NYC
- MINECRAFT EDUCATION CHALLENGE 

Using Minecraft, you will design and build a solution that supports sustainable communities and reduces inequities for everyone. You will accomplish this by solving a real-world problem (ending poverty, equal education, climate change, etc...). Once you have designed your solution, you will record a 1 minute 30 second Flipgrid video explaining the purpose of your creation. The Flipgrid submissions will be judged based on the provide rubric, and the students with the best designs will be selected to compete in a Live E-Sports Competition.


This assignment will be counted as EXTRA CREDIT for SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS. If you wish, you may record you design and share with me before the due date for feedback.

In this activity, you will graph and analyze worldwide energy production historically and its effect on the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. You will access statistics from 1751 continuing to the near-present. The data will also track the history of technology as humans have proceeded from a mostly coal-burning economy to one exploiting all types of fossil fuels.

Your goal is to create a graph using Google Sheets that shows the change in CO2 emissions from Natural Gas, Oil, and Coal from 1842 to the near present.

This map shows the land that was newly developed in the continental United States from 2008 to 2019. The development may be for public or private uses — homes, commercial or industrial buildings, recreational facilities, or public buildings. Data was derived by a computer model using satellite imagery.
