Health - Period 2-2 Assignments

We will be working on this document in class over the next few days. Please do not complete all at once.

Independently or with a partner, you will utilize resources to create a Public Service Announcement for an illegal drug of your choosing. 


To start your research, you may utilize the drugabuse.gov website. 


Make sure you include the following: 
- Name/Names of the drug
- How a person takes the drug
- Effects of the drug on the person 
- Possible ways to treat addiction (bonus if you include hotlines/rehab centers in your area.) 


You have complete freedom in how you present your information. Please attach here and submit when completed.

1. Now that you have seen the film, what do you think is the worst thing that can happen as a
result of a drunk driving collision?


2. In the documentary, Warren says “I never thought it would happen to me, not in a million
years.” Do you feel this way? Why?


3. At the end of the film one of the teenagers interviewed seems willing to make destructive
choices again. Why do you think he has that attitude? What would you say to him?  


4. Why do you think many young people don’t take drinking all
that seriously?


5. Would you call your parents or a trusted adult if you were some place where people were drinking alcohol and you were worried about 
how to get home safely? What do you think your parents would say? Would you be willing to ask them? Why or why not?


6. What would you do if your friend’s parents allowed your friend to drink at home and, while
visiting your friend, you, too, were offered alcohol? How do you think your own parents would
react if they knew?

How does the media portray alcohol?
Today we will be discussing in class, alcohol advertisements - what are they trying to show us? Does television alcohol ads differ from print ads?
What makes you stop and look at an ad? What factors make the ad geared more toward a certain gender?


Please use your class time today to borrow one of the many print ads in class to create your own alcohol ad - using canvas, google slides or the platform of your choice.  THE ONLY DIFFERENCE --- your ad should show the NEGATIVE effects of alcohol, not the glamourous  side.

In your groups, you will be given a number 1-6. Please read the attached paper labeled with your number.  You and your group will have a few minutes to take the presentation and make it into 25 words or less.  You will then present the key points to the class.

After watching Super Size Me 2 - Please construct a well-thought out typed PAGE (at least 3 paragraph) about your impressions of the documentary. What shocked you? What interested you? What do you want to know more about? Did it change the way you eat? Will you still eat at fast food restaurants? Are you concerned about the USDA and how they "police" food companies?

Please watch the video attached. A few different diets will be discussed.  What makes these "FAD" diets?
How can we describe the term Fad?
Are there any similarities in the diets? Any differences?

Today, we will look over the website www.myplate.gov, and discuss dietary guidelines that are important to sustain a healthy lifestyle.


Please answer the following question for credit for today and submit. 
Which food group do you think you eat too much or too little of, and what changes can you make to your diet to correct that issue?

Using ONE of the nutrient papers attached (which will be assigned to your group), create a google slide that answers all of the questions in the template. 
Please try to format your slide, like the template.

After reviewing the handout, preventing food poisoning, please create an advertisement using flip grip, canva, or a website of your choice to help show 1 or 2 ways to prevent food poisoning.

This will be a grade for your IN CLASS group work during the mental illness project.  This is not your final project grade.
