Print Journalism-Period 6 Assignments

This assignment is ONLY to be done if you did not write a review of the Pursuit of Happyness - Conversation with Chris Gardner.
**As journalists of Purple Prints, it is your responsibility to write about school events.** 
 Directions: In 2-3 standard paragraphs (5-7 sentences), write a review about the 

State of Emergency Town Hall with Tamika D. Mallory and Charlamagne.  Your review must Include a headline (title) and image with your review.  


When all else fails, just WRITE! The goal is to write about your experience watching the Town Hall and the issues addressed.

It’s that time again; time  to produce more content for the Purple Prints Blog!  This time you have a couple options.  You can produce NEW content or submit work from another class that aligns with Purple Prints’ content.

Choice 1: Create content about any topic that interests you OR use the optional topic below.
(Optional Topic) May 25, 2021  marked the anniversary of George Floyd's death.  His death sparked a global awareness of racism in America, which has been a systemic issue for centuries.  You can also use this opportunity to discuss other groups who have been targeted for hate, such as the Asian community and Palestinian and Jewish communities. You can present your thoughts in the form of writing (2-3 paragraphs), a poem, a collage, video message, or artwork (drawing, painting).
Choice 2: Have an essay, artwork, or poem that you completed in another class?  Submit your work for Purple Prints!  Please note your work MUST align with the content for Purple Prints - remember to consider your audience!

The goal is to write about your experience watching the movie and hearing from the real-life Chris Gardner.

Create a flyer promoting Purple Prints, using the Elements of Print Advertisements resource.  Be creative and think about what will draw attention to someone reading the flyer.

Read the directions of 'Elements of a Podcast - Your Choice'

Read the directions to complete the chart.

View the words, images and videos from teens across the United States that show us how they dealt with life's challenges in the midst of a pandemic.

Reflect on your year in the midst of a pandemic and share your thoughts in an opinion article or visual artwork (drawing, graphic design, collage, video, etc.)

Read the directions CAREFULLY for your choice of writing an article or creating artwork/media for Purple Prints.

Use the guided questions to write a review of today's Black History Show. Your review should be no more than 2 paragraphs (standard 5-7 sentences each paragraph).

When all else fails, just WRITE! The goal is to write about your experience watching the Black History Show.

Use Flipgrid to record yourself reciting the lines of the poem "The Hill We Climb." The poem is available on Google Classroom or in an attachment in Flipgrid

As this is a class assignment, record yourself with camera on and speak clearly.

Visit the New York Times (NYT) homepage at NYTimes.com and answer the questions in the attached document. This is a competition and the order of submission and correct answers, will determine at least 3 winners.

Directions: Using the information from Effective Research Strategies, research your story idea. Below list at a minimum of 3 sources you found that supports your story idea. You must include the Title, Author, Date Retrieved (date you found the source), and link for your sources.

Use the Google Slide to brainstorm your story idea, then provide a description of what your story is about. Be specific!

The Vape Article is an assignment we will work on over the period of 2-3 days. Read the directions carefully to complete all of the steps to submit a complete article.

Watch the video and answer the questions.

Choose an article/video from an online newspaper. Read or view the content and write a 3 paragraph summary of what the article/video is about. Conduct research as necessary to find more information about the topic of your chosen article/video.

Go to Giphy.com to find gifs that describe how you feel or your thoughts about your identity in the media. For example, do you feel represented, 2020 election, the pandemic, social media, and social justice issues.

Find at least 5 gifs that you connect with and for each one, select "copy link." Copy the link called "GIF link."

Return to the Google Slides. Click on "Insert" ---> "Image" ---> "by URL." Add your gifs to the appropriate spaces on the three slides.

Create brief (2-3 sentences) explanations about why you chose each of your gifs.
